Who Should Enrol?

The CMI Level 3 Award in First Line Management and Leadership is suitable for first-line managers, team leaders, supervisors, and aspiring managers who are responsible for managing people or team performance. It is also appropriate for individuals preparing for their first management role.

CMI does not specify formal entry requirements; however, centres must ensure learners have sufficient capability to undertake learning and assessment at Level 3.

Qualification/Skill Level

This is a Level 3 qualification that develops knowledge and understanding of first-line management and leadership practice, with a focus on managing teams and achieving results.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, learners will be able to understand approaches to managing and leading people and teams, apply methods to support team performance, and contribute to achieving team and organisational results.

Progression

Completion of the Award allows learners to top up to the CMI Level 3 Certificate or Diploma in First Line Management and Leadership, using accumulated credits. The qualification also supports progression to further management and leadership qualifications.

Awarding Organisation

This qualification is awarded by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and is regulated by the Qualifications Regulator (Ofqual).

Course Duration and Support

Course duration is flexible, and the learner can complete it within 6 months. The Award has a minimum Total Qualification Time of 50 hours, including 18 Guided Learning Hours. Learners receive tutor guidance, assessor feedback, and internal quality assurance support in line with CMI requirements.

Delivery Methods

The course is delivered 100% online, allowing learners to study at their own pace.

Assessments

Assessment is conducted against the unit learning outcomes and assessment criteria. A range of assessment methods may be used, including written assignments, reports, and structured assessment activities.

There are no written examinations.
Assessment decisions are made on a Pass/Refer basis.

Certificate Delivery Information

Upon successful completion, learners will receive the CMI Level 3 Award in First Line Management and Leadership. The certificate does not specify the mode of study. International learners are responsible for any applicable courier and processing fees before the certificate is dispatched.
