Build your understanding of the principles and practices of assessment with HHF’s Level 3 UPPA course. UPPA means Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment. This Focus Awards qualification covers assessment theory through one knowledge unit, with three credits.

Assessment Principles Units and Credits

Entry and Practical Access Requirements
HHF’s existing course information specifies learners aged 19 or over, suitable English reading and writing skills and the subject knowledge needed for their intended role.
This is a knowledge-only award. You do not need to assess learners, organise a workplace placement or complete practical assessor observations. It does not demonstrate competence to work as a qualified assessor.
You will need internet access, a suitable device and the identification documents requested for registration. Tell HHF about additional learning needs before starting so support and reasonable adjustments can be considered. Check your eligibility before enrolment.
Assessment and Evidence Requirements
Complete written work that explains assessment principles, responsibilities, planning, methods, decisions and quality assurance. Your assessor checks your knowledge against the unit criteria and provides feedback on any gaps.
Agree a realistic evidence plan with your assessor at induction. Keep your work organised against the unit criteria, retain the relevant records and respond to feedback where further evidence is required.
Protect learner and centre information in accordance with consent and data protection arrangements. Submit evidence through the approved course channels. Successful assessment and quality assurance are required before certification.
Online Learning, Duration and Tutor Support
Complete your UPPA course online with HHF learning resources, assessment guidance and tutor support. You have one to six months to complete the course.
Plan time for reading, written knowledge assignments, assessor feedback and quality assurance. This theory-only assessor qualification does not require a practical placement or observation.
HHF provides ongoing email support, usually replying within 24 hours. WhatsApp support is available Monday–Saturday, 9 am–6 pm. Contact the team about access or registration, and your tutor about learning and assessment.

Assessment Principles Course Fees and Enrolment

Progression After Assessment Principles
Consider a practical workplace assessor award, vocational assessor award or CAVA when you can organise suitable learners and assessment settings. Compare all nine assessment and verification routes or discuss your progression with HHF.

Achievement does not guarantee employment, a particular appointment or admission to further study. Prior learning is recognised only where the receiving qualification rules and evidence checks permit it.
